Hi there, my name is Sara and I am passionate about health and fitness. Throughout my lifetime I have ranged from underweight and unhealthy to overweight and unhealthy. At the moment, I have found the balance of working out and being accountable for what I eat. I think I look healthier and fitter now at 39 than I ever was in my 20’s. Yes folks, it is never too late to be in the best shape of your life. Whether you are 20 or 60 it is never to late to start!
By no means do I consider myself perfect, because no one is. I am an average person with an interest in being the best me that I can be. I still have many goals to achieve in regards to fitness and health. Let’s face it we are all a work in progress! The great part of setting goals is, you always have something to look forward to. There’s new and exciting health and fitness information coming out all the time to help us along the way.
Here’s a bit of background on myself, I have celiac disease, and Grave’s disease (hyper thyroid disease). This is why I have struggles with my health and weight. By the time I was in my mid twenties, I was underweight and very unhealthy. Truly, I felt like I was dying, I had a lot of pain, especially in my mouth and throat (gluten had caused multiple, horrible canker-like sores anywhere gluten came into contact inside my mouth, throat and small intestine). I had terrible fatigue, constant diarrhea – food came in, and very quickly, food came out.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that causes your body to attack your small intestine when you eat gluten. Gluten is in wheat, barley and rye. Not only can you not eat gluten with celiac disease, you cannot eat anything that has come into contact with gluten. Yes, it is a long road to finally become really gluten free!
As much as it was difficult to stop eating all the foods I loved that contain gluten, it was so much worse for me to eat them. By the time I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I was so happy to know why I had these horrible symptoms and that by simply not eating certain foods, I felt 100% healthy. It was not a hard choice to go gluten free.
Once I was gluten free and healthy, I gained a lot of weight. I was very surprised and frankly pissed off that I was gaining weight and eating half of what I used to eat! My small intestine had healed and therefore was digesting food properly. My body had been in starvation mode for so long because of my disease that I just looked at food and gained weight. So that started me on the quest to lose weight the healthy way and to exercise regularly. I started to seek out diet and exercise information. I watched shows about health, read books, joined classes – you name it, I’ve probably tried it or at least heard about it.
The reason I started this website is, I wanted to share my trials and triumphs, share valuable information pertaining to health and wellness and to be a positive voice of encouragement for women. I believe that we all have the power within ourselves to lose weight and be healthy. All we need is information, inspiration and commitment.
